Animal Welfare First
By Kay Curbow That’s the motto of Gateway Pet Rescue.
Amid all the sifting down and shaking out of its first three years, this is the nugget of truth that is left. Gateway has learned the value of that
truth in some hard decision-making. The tough decisions have been many and regretfully all too often. Do we help save the
animals at the county shelter or forsake them? Do we catch and spay feral cats or just feed them? Do we retrieve a wounded
stray rotty from beneath a shed or leave him to die? Do we take on the expense of treating animals injured on the
highways, puppies with parvo, dogs with heartworms and mange, and cats so badly mangled by dog attacks as to require limb
amputation – shall Gateway invest money in their care or just have them put down? We examine the nugget in the bottom of the pan. All the “illness” and debris wash over the edge. We are reminded of who Gateway Pet Rescue is and what our mission is. Somehow the money, the means and the courage come. The nugget and the animals saved become the jewel of Gateway. On these pages you will see our story. You will see the lovable and very adoptable puppies and kittens and you will see the dogs and cats that are society's cast offs, left in terrible shape to wither away. They are all God's Creations and we give them all the best loving care possible, there are no "rejects" at Gateway. We hope that you enjoy this web-site, the
success stories, the pictures, the information and fun pages, the e-Cards and the excellent listing of pet goodies and
products. We also hope that you will find our efforts worthy of your support. Since 1998 over 1,600 dogs and cats have
continued barking, meowing and giving pleasure and joy to humans due to the support given to Gateway. You can help keep that
number growing. |
