Hi. My name is Goldie. I’m a Gateway Pet Rescue dog. I
live in a foster home now cuz I guess my real mom didn’t want me. I was lucky enough to be found still alive, along with five
littermates. The county animal control found us and picked us up. Since we had demadex mange, the state was going to do something
called “put us down” so some other folks from this Gateway place got us. Our first few months in this world were pretty rough, but
we live in a really nice foster home now where they feed us every day, clean out our pens, and take care of us. Since no one knew my
real mom or dad, I really don’t know what I am – some golden Lab maybe mixed with some Carolina dog (also called Dixie Dingo),
Chow or Shar Pei and who knows what else. I have a lavender tongue. One
of my brothers and three of my sisters already found permanent homes.
My foster mom calls me Pooh Bear sometimes. I guess
she thinks I look like one and sometimes I try to act like one too. She was nice enough to take me to the vet January 2001 when I started limping. The doctor told us that I
have hip dysplasia and that I need hip surgery. That costs a lot of money!
If Gateway can collect enough money, they say I can live a near normal, pain-free life. My foster mom and dad let me live in the big house with them now so I don't get too wet or cold! They say that I deserve to get better and find a permanent home cuz I’m such a good girl.
Won’t you please help me?
(10/25/03 update) We have decided to hold off doing any surgery on Goldie for the time being. We have found a liquid glucosamine product that she gets every morning and loves getting her "medicine." The progress so far has been outstanding! She is running and jumping and playing along with all the other dogs. She loves being outside as much as she can and has become our #1 watch dog. She is trained on our underground fence and loves her freedom. It has been so rewarding seeing her become playful again.
